Houston Quilt Festival Winners Announced!
The big reveal has arrived—the winners of the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024 have been announced! This year's lineup is nothing short of spectacular, with stunning designs that are bound to leave you wide-eyed and inspired. From "Monkeys in My Hair" by Deborah S. Hyde—which has more critters than a summer picnic—to intricate designs across every category, this year's quilts are an absolute treat. If you want to spot the monkeys, birds, butterflies, and maybe even a frog or two, check it out for yourself. Don't forget to count the critters—it's a game now! Watch it here.
AI's Attempt at Quilting—How Did It Go?
AI is creeping its way into our cozy quilting circle, and Quilting Daily decided to put ChatGPT to the test! They had ChatGPT write instructions for a simple Pinwheel block, and let’s just say—things didn’t exactly go as planned. Instead of a nice pinwheel, they ended up with a confusing Nine-Patch block.
Even though our beloved quilts are safe from being entirely overtaken by robots, this little experiment made for quite the laugh. The experts concluded, “Not today, AI, not today.” You can see more about this AI versus human quilter showdown right here.
Nebraska Heartland Quilts of Valor
The Nebraska Heartland Quilts of Valor chapter recently honored three veterans by presenting them with handmade quilts, part of the national Quilts of Valor Foundation's mission to provide comfort and healing to service members and veterans affected by war. This event highlights the dedication of local quilters in recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans, offering a heartfelt thank you for their service while raising awareness about the foundation's impactful work in supporting those who have served their country. Tote That Quilt! Tote That Quilt! Yea, Yea, Yea
If you feel the desire to "rock" while you're quilting, be sure to check out our new YouTube Short, "Tote That Quilt"! It features our brand-new Quilt Toting Rock Song playing during the unboxing (or unwrapping) of our fabulous new tote bags. It's fun, it's quirky, and it's all about celebrating our love of quilting in style. It's pretty on the edge for us but we hope you find it as much fun to watch as it was for us to make. Even our dog makes an appearance in this one! Watch it here!
And while you're rockin' to the new tune, check out all our new totes at the store.
There you have it, quilting friends—some of the freshest threads in the quilting community this week. Whether you're in the mood to count critters in a quilt or enjoy a good laugh at AI's quilting attempt, there's something here for everyone. Keep your needles sharp and your spirits high until next time!
