Our Sea Turtle Quilt Panel dives straight into the beauty of the ocean, creating a peaceful underwater world that’s as meaningful as it is vibrant. I wanted to design something that would work well for teenagers—especially since those quilts are often in high demand for Linus projects. The result is a design that feels both youthful and timeless, suitable for boys or girls alike.

The Inspiration

I’ve been a little sea-turtle-obsessed lately (you may remember my earlier blog about the Foundation Paper Pieced Sea Turtle Quilt). These gentle creatures have such calm, enduring energy—they travel thousands of miles through the ocean yet always find their way home. That sense of resilience and peace was exactly what I wanted to capture in fabric. The deep blues, purples, and glimmers of coral light bring out the mystery and serenity of the sea, while the glowing turtles invite you to drift along with them.

Artistic Style

For this panel, I chose a vibrant, digital-painterly style that glows with iridescent colors. It combines smooth gradients with sketch-like edges to give a sense of motion, like light rippling through water. The vivid palette makes it perfect for older kids and teens—something modern and exciting, but still gentle enough to appeal to any age.
